Yuz Museum presents Grace Weaver’s first-ever institutional solo exhibition in Mainland China. Titled Painters & Portraits, the exhibition showcases a collection of Weaver’s recent work from 2023. Capturing fleeting fragments of everyday life, Weaver’s work serves as an in-depth contemplation of the essence of painting. Through a portrayal of contemporary life’s ephemeral moments, the artist unravels the dynamic interplay between art and the mundane, the self and subjectivity, as well as existence and reality.

An exhibition featuring 20 works by Grace Weaver from the Stadler Collection will be showcased at the Neues Museum, Nuernberg, from 30 June. With a few strokes and precise observations, Weaver portrays the everyday lives of a young, urban generation of mostly women. The protagonists play sports, meet with one other, or sometimes carry rubbish through urban landscapes. These casual scenes present contemporary snapshots of time, prompting reflections on notions of self-image and confidence, but also loneliness. In her unique painterly style, Weaver creates a reductive yet profound approach to her subjects.

Grace Weaver’s Intersection, 2020, will be on view at the YUZ Museum in Shanghai, in the group exhibition Next Door: A Yuz Foundation Collection. The work, which depicts two women entangled while crossing a street surrounded by plumes of smoke, navigates the complexity of urban life, chronicling experiences in the public realm whilst conjuring notions of pandemic-time anxieties and unease.
