INGE MAHN et al.
Collection Now (group show)
Albertinum, Dresden
16 November 2024 – 24 January 2025

Work by Inge Mahn is included in Collection Now at the Albertinum. Presenting a selection of new acquisitions and donations in dialogue with older works from the collection as well as loans from younger artists, the exhibition weaves together painting, sculpture, drawing and video from nearly six decades of art history. At the spatial and conceptual centre of the presentation is Mahn’s 4 Parkbänke mit 4 Papierkörben, 1973, a significant early work by the artist, newly donated to the Albertinum collection. Mahn’s practice draws on the environments of social interaction: with formal rigour and a touch of humour, her sculptures and site-specific installations dissect institutional architectures, examining how spaces such as schools, public areas, or museums create subjectivities.

INGE MAHN
Stand und Verfassung
A project by Inge Mahn and Vlado Velkov

A Christmas tree is also affected by the lockdown in Brandenburg. It is located on Lake Wolziger near Funkenmühle and will remain there for the foreseeable future. This socially distant Christmas tree by Inge Mahn and Vlado Velkov floats, lonely, on a raft on top of cold water. Without family and friends, he turns on his axis again and again and dances with his reflection. For the small community on the shore that helped with the production, the tree evolved into a social project that brings people back together, brings joy and instills hope. The work, titled Stand und Verfassung (Status and Constitution), is on view until the end of the lockdown, from the shore in Funkenmühle.
