Becoming Ocean: a social conversation about the Ocean (group show)
Villa Arson, Nice
8 May – 24 August 2025

Work by Janaina Tschäpe is on view in Becoming Ocean: a social conversation about the Ocean, a major group exhibition at Villa Arson, Nice. Co-curated by Villa Arson, TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary and Tara Ocean Foundation, in collaboration with Schmidt Ocean Institute, the presentation explores the main challenges facing the Ocean in a choral way. The exhibition features critical and documentary approaches by more than 20 international artists, as well as more sensory, poetic or speculative expressions, to underline the essential role of collaboration and the conviction that art and culture are drivers of social and environmental change.
Becoming Ocean is part of the programme for the Nice Biennial of Arts and the Ocean, organised as part of the United Nations Conference on the Oceans (UNOC3) held in Nice from 9 to 13 June 2025.

Terraphilia: Beyond the human in the Thyssen-Bornemisza collections (group show)
Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid
1 July – 28 September 2025

Works by Janaina Tschäpe are featured in Terraphilia, a group exhibition at Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid. Organised in collaboration with TBA21–Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, the exhibition brings together around one hundred works spanning five centuries from the Thyssen-Bornemisza, Carmen Thyssen and TBA21–Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary collections.
Terraphilia – a term combining Terra (Earth) with philia (love and friendship) – expresses a deep-rooted connection of care and responsibility towards the Earth and its multitudes of inhabitants. In the face of the mounting pressures of planetary heating, biodiversity loss and increasing inequalities, the exhibition turns to art to envision and orientate us towards transformative ways of being in the world, mobilising interspecies kinship, new kinds of collectivities and planetary care.
