Hans Josephsohn’s sculpture, Untitled (Ruth), 1968, will be permanently installed in the Bibliothek Günther Förg, Hauptstraße 7, on view from July 2026.

Untitled (Ruth), 1968, is a tactile sculpture, cast in brass, from Josephsohn’s exemplary body of ‘Half- Figures’. Working from live models to capture the essence of his subjects, the artist based his works on people with whom he had a close connection. This included Ruth, his partner at the time, who became his model for twenty years following their first encounter in 1956.

Hans Josephsohn’s works are presented alongside works by Herbert Boeckl (1894–1966) in the joint exhibition Figural Archetypes at the Leopold Museum, Vienna. The exhibition highlights fundamental parallels in the two artists’ understanding of corporeality, materiality and the process of form-finding. While the two artists never met during their lifetimes, each remained committed to artistic expression through figuration, and in the work of both, the processes of creation remain visible.
