The Kunstmuseum Bern presents the first major survey exhibition in Switzerland of paintings by Katharina Grosse. Understood as one of the most internationally significant painters of her generation, Grosse has developed a body of work, since the 1990s, in which performance and media come to the fore. This exhibition takes a close look at Grosse’s canvasses made in her studio, from her earliest works in the late 1980s to her most recent production. Colour is central to Grosse’s artistic practice: she experiments with its physical presence, its sensory, political and emotional potentials and its ability to embody movement.

The exhibition is organised by the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, St. Louis, USA, in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Bern. A bilingual catalogue in English and German has been published by Hatje Cantz.
